Check this out people! I was riding on the metro yesterday during rush hour and of course, the driver had to say a billion times, "Please stand clear of the door". Then finally he threatened to take the train out of service, and you know what? He did! I couldn't believe it, he was so angry at the situation that he kicked us all out. Which of course only worsenens the problem. Here's a picture of everyone trying to get out of the train and on to the platform.

I don't know what's worse. The people refusing to "stand clear of the door" or the driver kicking us out and delaying the metro and making it even more crowded for the next train. I honestly don't think he had the right to do that, and sure enough eventually he had to move on to the next stop with people still on the train refusing to get off. I was so mad. I didn't see who was the one blocking the doors, because it wasn't in my car, but I wonder if they got death stares from all the people around him or her when we were all forced off the train. My friend and I were so frustrated, that I took pictures, and we just got out of the metro and walked the rest of the way. Luckily we were only one stop away from where we were trying to go.

Anyway, this week has been "staff appreciation week" with all sorts of fun goodies to participate in at work. On Tuesday we had free pizza lunch. Yesterday, we had free ice cream and I had a numerologist interpret my numbers, and today was "wellness day" with free health screenings, 10-minute massages, and a free personal training consultation! I think it's funny that they offered health screenings which do a quick check on your blood pressure, cholesterol, and body mass index after they've served us junk food the previous days. Of course, I participated in them all, and now I'm tempted to get a personal trainer! Ah, but 50 dollars per session? I don't have that kind of dough!

Speaking of which, I spent all my money on a trip to Chicago coming up at the end of the month! Some coworkers and I are going to the Taste of Chicago! Where I will eat delicious deep dish pizzas and beef sandwiches and all sorts of yumminess! Maybe I'll rethink the personal trainer after my trip. I also plan on going down to the Chicago Beach on Lake Michigan and flying kits and going up large ferris wheels. Also included are night Face-drinking Contests. If you don't know what a face-drinking contest is, it's my term for drinking until your face falls ofF! Har Har! Debauchery! Hey, when in chicago, do as the chicagoians (or whatever they're called). I'll be staying at the Hotel Monaco where you have the option of having a pet goldfish in your room! Neato.

Well it's time for class! Gotta go!

So, again with my sporadic and infrequent bloggings that you guys no longer care about! I stayed home today because I am sick, so I have some time to update the cyberworld about my goings on. And! Thursday is my last class for 2 weeks, so I will be enjoying some time off for a little while. Will that mean some crafty posts?! Who knows. Right now, I'd like to share with you guys my latest purchase. A bike!

Yes, that's right. It does have a basket on it. Everytime I told someone I was buying a bike, they said the same things: "Oh, are you going to put streamers on it and a basket? Hmm?" Well, yes! I am! I mean, not the streamers, but I thought a basket would be handy! The basket comes off and I can use it as my grocery store basket!

Look at me riding along so "gingerly" as my dad said. Wee! Right now, though, I have no way of transporting the bike to my apartment until I buy a car rack for it. And then! Bike rides! Leisurely weekend bike rides! Who wants to go with me?

Here is another little thing I thought I'd like to share:

A bunny! He's so cute and lives in my parents front yard. He's also becoming less afraid of us and doesn't run away so immediately. I leave little pieces of celery in front of his bunny hole.

Anyway, that's it for now!

I am most horrible! A lot of you have noticed the decreased activity on this site. I can make a lot of excuses, but mostly I've just gotten out of the habit, and it's been hard for me to pick up again. Classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays have been tiring, work's been tiring, Get Buff Spring '08 has also been tiring. Blah blah blah. Speaking of Get Buff Spring '08, I had been training really hard for the Cherry Blossom Ten Miler, and then I caught a cold the Thursday before the race! Another thing I slacked off on. Oh! For shame, for shame! Anyway, enough of all the wallowing. Here's what I've been up to lately!

Yesterday I found out that the new Newseum opened up and was FREE to the public. It was pretty cool, but I didn't get to see too much because I came late and didn't realize they were closing early. Also, I forgot my camera so I took pictures with the camera on my phone:

Nothing about the birth of Satellite radio... tsk tsk! They even talk about Howard Stern and the FCC problems. That was the perfect oppurtunity to mention subscription based Satellite radio.

The interactive portion! Play games and be a reporter!

Here's a little old lady on the scene!

Comics! They had a thing about my favorite comic strip Calvin and Hobbes too! I have no idea what a 4-D movie is. Didn't have time for that. The bathrooms were down there though too.

This a magnificent chunk of the Berlin Wall. They also had a huge guard tower.

           I like this graffitti!

Ok, well that was a fun little trip. They had some other stuff I wish I could've seen. Anyway, what else, what else?! I've also compiled a list of restaurants around the D.C. area that I want to try, and I'm looking for suggestions. Here's part of my list so far:

Bistro Du Coin

Al Tiramisu

Meiwah

Georgia Browns

Ella's Woodfie Pizza

Rosa Mexicana

Any other suggestions people? I want all different types! Different parts of the world! Preferably non-chain!

I feel like there were other things I wanted to talk about, but I can't remember them right now. So I'll get back to you. I promise to make more blog postings!

(I actually posted this late yesterday so I'm reposting it again today on the March page)Yay! You thought I'd go all of February without making a blog entry, but I got an extra day in this leap year to get it accomplished! Happy Leap Year! Things are going ok, but still a little stagnant. I haven't even been going to the gym. I feel so out of shape! My bicep muscles have shrunk :( Oh well. Anyway, I thought I'd humor you guys by posting up some of the pictures I've been taking for my Digital Photography class.

Well that's everything! While we're on the subject of photography, you guys should head over to my friend's new website Maryland Daily Photo where you can see some really interesting photos about Maryland with some great factoids about the subject of the picture and the great state of Maryland in general. I'd say "our great state" but I no longer live in Maryland! Aiee!

Well, here it is, a picture of my hair where I'm "voguing" it. Actually, my bluetooth headset is ringing and I'm about to answer it when I took this picture with my laptop:

Looks nice, yes? Although, when I put on sunglasses, I look like a woman who's trying to be "incognito" with a fake black wig and dark sunglasses. All I need is a trench coat...which I have! Otherwise, someone told me I look like this:

Whatev. Anyway, a couple other things. With all these babies being had around me (My cousin in the Philippines, my friend from high school, some coworkers, other friends), I'm starting to feel a little overwhelmed with everyone's little websites and baby-pic spam. But, I got quite a surprise yesterday when my cousin emailed me from the P.I. and asked me to be the godmother of her little Elisse! Oddly enough, both my cousin and my old high school classmate were both due on the 31st, both had their baby like 2 weeks early on the same day and one is named Elisse and the other is named Alyssa. Like totally weird, right? Here's my little godchild:

I think she looks like me when I was a baby! I mean, I don't have any baby pictures on me except for this one!

I was so cute. Aw.

Lastly, I've taken in my poor sick little (fat) cat. She's got all sorts of infections and while my parents are away in the Philippines standing in for me during the Christening, I have to give her some pills and butt wipes and take care of her. But she's already becoming quickly adjusted:

But she's in bad shape, and I don't know whether or not her condition is fixable. We're still waiting to her from the vet on such things. Meanwhile, we can try to make life a little bit more enjoyable and give her some company.

So 2008 is speeding ahead! How am I doing on my New Years resolutions? Eh. I started going to the gym again, though. Gotta get on track for the Cherry Blossom Ten Miler in April! Can you believe it? That was, like, my first blog entry of madebytrish. This time my dad is running it with me, so there won't be any video of me looking so cheerful. In fact, I'm a little bit behind on my training, so I doubt I'll be very cheerful anyway.

I got some craft projects coming up that I've been checking out. My friend has commissioned me to look into some screen-printed wall-art, so I went to the art supply store for the first time in a long time and bought some screen-printing supplies and checked out some canvases. Still working things out. Oh yes! I got my hair cut yesterday. It looks exactly like this picture:

If you can believe it, I look a little bit like Cleopatra or Joan Jett, Karen O or of course, the afore-pictured Christina Ricci. Or all four of them at once! I'll send you a picture soon, but right now my little bangs are not quite used to being this short and are kind of sticking up like a visor. I pinned them back, so right now I have no bangs. But I love the cut! I just gotta get used to the new look. It's different!

What else? Not too much, I've been busy taking classes and making home-made ice cream. Yay! I want to take a vacation soon. What to do? It's kind of hard now that I have classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Maybe I'll just sit at home and relax.

2008! Happy New Year! I hope you all have big plans for this year, because I certainly do. I forsee this year being prosperous and I asked my Magic 8-ball whether or not it thought 2008 would be a good year as well and it said "As I see it, yes." Thanks! Although, to bring in the New Year, one of my outlets blew a circuit or something and now looks like this:

This is important because it's the outlet connected to the surge protector that's connected to my TV! Yikes! So guess, what? I've started reading a book that I got two years ago that I couldn't ever get past the first few chapters: Life of Pi! I've heard good things. Maybe the lack of tv watching abilities will mean extra productivity! Another crappy thing: is that yesterday my throat started getting sore and now it hurts to talk. 2008 is not starting off well at all. But I guess it can only get better from here, right? Must think happy thoughts! Maybe that should be my ultimate New Years Resolution... and that I WILL buy those boots!

Oh, and one last sad tale... MY PLANTS HAVE DIED! My little baby herbs barely had a chance to live! I accidentally left them on my windowsill one cold night and awoke to find them wilty and usually they pep up right away. Unfortunately, this is not the case anymore and they are not pepping up but getting more shrivelly. I'm really heartbroken. Augh! I hate you, 2008!

Merry Christmas! (And a general Happy Holidays to all non-Christmas-celebraters!)

Well, I got everything I wanted for Christmas and more some! The big gift of the year was the trading in of my old iPod for a new iPhone! I got that a little early, actually. In addition, I traded in my old bluetooth for a new bluetooth "for her"--my mom was so excited because the bluetooth was "for her" and the one I had is too manly. Trading in, you ask? Well, my old ipod and my dad's old ipod are going to the Philippines for my cousins and my old bluetooth is just going to my dad. As for some other stuff, the stuff I actually asked for, I got an ice cream maker and a brulee torch... also some cash, which I used to buy accessories for my laptop and iPhone. Although, I've recently taken to coveting some red boots from ALDO. Is $170 too much? I've obviously got a thing for red shoes. I saw them in the stores and they were the only pair of boots NOT on sale, so I'm holding out to see if someone else has similar boots for less.

But still! Sometimes it's nice being an only child, yes yes? Well, I know you all think I'm a spoiled brat. I'd like to say that I'm ok with being called spoiled, but not a brat - unless you mean in the military sense. It's not like I'm throwing tantrums or even asking for these things. I asked for an ice cream maker! But yes, I've very happy with the loot. Anyway, I say these things every year and no one buys my defense. I bought my mother some nice pajamas and my dad gets a book and the Planet Earth series on DVD.

I'm so mad because I had a great craft idea for the Holidays and I never posted it. I always say I'm so busy, but the truth is sometimes I get busy then I feel guilty and then I just start avoiding the website all together! I'm so horrible. I will! I will! It's my New Year's resolution. Can you believe it's almost been a year since I've had madebytrish up and running?! Yay!

It's kind of a bittersweet thing, when you get your own Christmas tree. It's just one of those things that you don't realize is a benchmark into adulthood, but once you cross that line, it all of a sudden becomes kind of significant. Now I have my own Christmas tree, at my own apartment. I mean, I haven't lived at my parents house for quite some time now, but something about having roommates makes your situation seem very impermanent. On the otherhand, now that I'm living by myself, the fact that I went out and got my own Christmas tree... I dunno. I'm totally independent! That said, I came home to my parents house this weekend so that I can do my laundry here. Hmm.. independent, not so much. My mom even has a stockpile of food she bought for me at the grocery store.

Anyway, I had some friends come over and help me decorate the tree. If I decorated it myself, I think I would've spent the evening crying in the bathtub. Har har. I'm just saying, it might've been kind of sad.

Royela and Jeff, such good little elves! (That sounds like something Royela would say.)

We had some problems topping the tree. I think it might've been the fact that I bought all my ornaments at the dollar store.

Eventually, I used a velcroe cable-tie to affix the star. Only temporary! But doesn't it look glorious?

So you may not know this, but I LOVE coming up with New Year's Resolutions. I usually tend to keep them (except, one is always to floss more, and somehow it makes my New Year's list every year.) I was looking back at last years resolutions and I'm actually pretty satisfied with my 2007 accomplishments. I learned how to sew, that was one of the resolutions. I cooked more, that was also one. I went to the gym pretty consistently. In fact! I even ran 2 ten milers. Not to mention the other things I'm proud of: creating madebytrish.com, moving into my own apartment, my mosaic table, backpacking around Europe, starting classes, and maybe even my meager business ventures of selling calendars and offering my products to the public!

So this year, I've come up with a new list. I resolve to... wear high heels more often! ...And generally dress nicer. After I moved to the morning shift, I tend to not put any thought into what I look like. I resolve to... paint more! I'm out of practice. I resolve to... sew more! (at least, finish some projects I've already started on). I resolve to... sell more crafty goods. I resolve to drink more water! Be healthy! And also to floss more. I'll probably come up with more once it gets closer to New Years. Any ideas?

So yeah. I know it's been a while since I made a blog entry or a new project, but it's been kind of hectic with the holidays and everything else going on. I've recently had a series of doctors appointments (my last appointment is next Tuesday) because I've been having some heart palpitations. First, had an EKG done which measured one irregular heart beat in the span of like less than a minute. Second, I had to wear a Holter Monitor for 24 hours to record and confirm the regularity of my irregular heart beats. Lastly (last night), I had an echocardiogram, which was kind of cool. I got to see my heart on the monitor. It just looked black and hollow and kind of eerie. But the doctor said it looked nice and healthy and that the "Premature Ventricular Contractions" I've been having are not caused by anything physically blocking my heart from doing it's job. Maybe they'll go away. I've had them for a long time though, so I don't know whether they'll go away soon. But I'm soooo relieved that it's nothing serious.

Also, I've recently signed up for some classes at the John Hopkin's Computer Career Institute. I start by learning some graphic design and then I'll move on to digital video and animation. What this program does not cover, which I wish it did, is flash (at least not in my specific program) and traditional animation, which I love oh so much. By the way, if you're looking for a Christmas present to get me, might I suggest this or really anything from here. I also visited UMBC and their graduate program was very cool. Mac G5 labs all over the place! I could learn a lot there, but an application and a portfolio needs to be submitted and I just don't know if I can make the cut. Whether or not my art (including stuff like this) is focused and thought-provoking enough. Not to mention full-time 3 year program!!! Augh!!

Soooooo, that's what's been going on. I've also been doing a lot of site maintenance that I've been ignoring, fixing google ads and updating links - lots of tedious but necessary work. However! I think I'll start working on my Christmasly Cheesy Holiday sweater tonight. Fun, yeah?

So it's Friday night and I'm staying in. Because that's what I do. Nothing. Honestly, this morning schedule from 7 am-3ish pm is really getting to me. All I want to do is sit on the couch and watch tv and I feel like I haven't done anything productive in so long! I used to paint... haven't done that in a while. I used to sew. I haven't done that in a while. In fact, I have a shirt with a button that fell off that has been sitting on my sewing table for a while now. Must! Get! It! Together!
In other news, I've been thinking about going to grad school! I'm looking at programs for digital arts and animation and I've been meeting with different people. Actually, that's not true. I only met with one guy so far. I checked out this place called Westwood College and I didn't really like what I saw. They have an animation program and it's geared towards "working adults" and a lot of credits from college would transfer over, but based on the student output hanging up on the walls, it didnt seem quite at the level of detail and depth I was hoping for. Fah. I also walked into a classroom and saw magazine collages and a cut out Wu-Tang emblem thingy. It just seems all very "highschool." Not to mention! It'd be only a Bachelor's Degree, and I've already got two. I mean, three is getting into the pathetic range.
Tomorrow I have a meeting with a Johns Hopkins advisor for a Masters Certificate in their Business and Computer Career Department's Digital Video and Animation program. Again, despite the fact that Johns Hopkins is a renowned school, I don't know whether or not it's "arty" enough for me. Business and Computer career doesn't sound like the right department!
Lastly, I'm trying to see if I can arrange to see UMBC's Imaging and Digital Art department which looks awesome. The only thing is I wouldn't be able to start until next fall and I have to go through a whole application process with letters of recommendation, a portfolio, an artistic statement and what if I don't get accepted?!? I've been out of school for 3 years now and haven't kept up with any of my former teachers, so I hope they don't mind all my letters of recommendations coming from all the different supervisors I have. I'm scared! Going back to school! Blah! UMBC also seemed really weird about coming in and checking out their program. They offered me a tour and took down my contact info but never contacted me. So I re-contacted them and they said they'd get back to me soon with some more info. Hmm!

One last thing! The popular blog <a href="http://www.cupcakestakethecake.blogspot.com/"target="pop">Cupcake Takes the Cake recently had a blog entry about 2008 cupcake calendars and didn't feature mine. :( Maybe they don't like funny but evil cupcakes. They said to email them if they missed any, so we're campaigning now! Email them!

Just came back from Vegas! Woo! Sin City! I lost $62 dollars though. Blah. I played roulette and I didn't even win a single time. All my coworkers were winning big though! Then they tried to teach me all about strategy and I called them stupid because there's no such thing as strategy for roulette. No such thing!!! But they were winning and I lost all my money. I dunno. It was fun though. Here are some pictures from the event:

This is me driving the XM golf cart. I had to work at the Vegoose Festival which was a lot of fun. Daft Punk was there and they were awesome. So were the Shins. Rage against the Machine was also good but we left during their set because they were the last ones and we wanted to get out early and gamble our last night! (Not me, though... after I lost the first night, I didn't play again.)

I made it down to the Bellagio to see the water show but didn't actually go in. All in all, we went to the Palms, Planet Hollywood, and the Hard Rock.

We stayed at the Embassy Suites which was off the strip. It wasn't ritzy but there were swans inside the hotel lobby! They stay there and sleep in this little fountain. Sounds sad, but the sign says they're happy. It's written on a sign.

Then, we had our Halloween festivities at work. Every department gets $250 dollars to decorate an area of work and then the winning department gets $1000. The first year our team one, the second year we got second place, and this year, we didn't try. I decorated the room but all we did was wear ghost costumes and play poker. I guess we were so burnt out after our Chili Cook-off we didn't feel up to putting our creative festivities into anything else.

I decorated this room... looks nice, no?

This is the entrance to one of the Haunted Houses the "Rock" Cluster did.

The "Country" Cluster decided to do an Americana theme... wasn't really scary.

The "Dance" Cluster put up these backdrops so they could cover up their desks and sit and work and not participate.

   We had "Bone Jovi" perform.

This was my team. There's a token black ghost at the end if you can see him. We represented channels that XM no longer carries. Dead Channels.

HR did a haunted hay-ride walk through type of thing. Yes, it was messy.

There was a Wizard of Oz display.

  Other random decorations.

What fun! What crazy folks we are!

Don't forget it's Calendar buying Season! Oh, and also I've got a new project coming up! Yay! I'm going to refinish a mirror I bought off of Craig's list. It'll probably take multiple weekends to finish so I'll post as I go along. Sorry I haven't been doing so many projects. I switched to a morning shift (7am-3pm) and all I want to do when I get home is sit and veg. Need to get active!

          Look at my little babies!

They're growing up so fast! To answer someone's question about whether or not the seeds needed to be planted in the dirt: no! I followed the Chia Herb Garden instructions and it said to sprinkle them on top of the "growing sponge" (except for the chives! I had actually dig a little hole). And Look! They're growing their second leaves:

Neat! But I had to bring them to work because they weren't getting enough sunlight at home. And also! So my coworker can water them because I'm going to Vegas tomorrow! I've never been so I hope it'll be fun. But I'm going for work, so might not get that much time to gamble or go out. Unless I don't work! Ha! Just kidding. Speaking of work, we had a Chili Cook-off that we dubbed "P.O.O.T.U.S. '07" to make fun our new "P.O.T.U.S. '08" channel covering the Presidential election. It was a grand Ol time and we took over the floor and decorated it in Americana themed and I was in charge of making the trophy:

See?! It's a TOILET! With an Eagle rising out of it! Because we're very into toilet humor at work. I also brought in our guest presenter, Matthew Lesko:

If you're wondering, I went to school with his son Morgan, so that's how I know him. He bought a Cupcake Calendar from me! You buy one! Ok, now I have to pack. Free Money from the Government!
P.S. I look like a crazy person because I hardly slept in preparation for the chili and the trophy making and what not. My hair looks awful!

Well the calendar has been completed and ordered... and I just recieved them yesterday! Hoorah! If you are wishing to purchase one, please visit the Etsy store I set up (here!).
I made these cupcakes with a variety of sprinkles and used a toothpick moistened with frosting or decorating gel to sort of pick up the different sprinkles and place them ever so carefully. It was incredibly time consuming which is why I used pre-mixed cake batter and store bought frosting! Of course, I added chocolate chips into the batter because that's my fave! Now go check out all the months and buy a calendar!

GUESS WHAT! I know I haven't told you guys anything about this, BUT! I recently got a window sill herb garden for my new apartment. That's one of the things I really wanted to get (and I got it for free by using my credit card reward points to get an Amazon.com gift certificate). It's the Chia Gourmet Herb garden set. I "planted" them no earlier than this past Sunday and already, look:

This is a close up of my basil:

This is the dill, it's fuzzy and you can see a little bit of germination:

This is the cilantro, very fuzzy (I hope that's a good sign):

And my chives, yet to show their faces... but these you had to plant underneath the surface, so hopefully they'll come up soon enough:

I came home today from work and was so excited I had to post about it immediately! They're so cute, they're like my little pets. Anyway, I've got more cupcakes to ice and decorate!

I'M BACK! Ok, lots have happened since my last blogging. I moved. I went backpacking around Europe. I bought a lot of stuff at Ikea. I went to Florida too.
I know it's been so long since I've made any updates and I have a lot of catch up on, but the important thing is I'm back and I've got a new craft project to work on! Yay! Oh, and I can do a pull up too. YEAH, GET BUFF SUMMER '07! Here's a picture of my apartment:

So first things first. I moved into a lovely one-bedroom apartment in the District, and it's super cute and large and spacious. But! I didn't realize how long it would take to move. It's like... first I had to pack up all my stuff. Then I had to unpack all my stuff. Then I had to buy so much stuff and then I needed to rally friends to help me set up said newly bought stuff. Actually, my "craft" center isn't really set up yet. Very disorganized. But I just recently got all the boxes out of my apartment so, now I can move around a little bit more and organize a bit. (I had to take the boxes to my parents house because they don't take bulk trash here.) Then I had trouble getting my wireless router set up. But now it's set up and I finally have secure internet! Wee! I know, tons of excuses, but what can I say? Moving is much more complicated than it seems.

            Let's talk about Europe:

Backpacking around Europe was a whirlwind tour. I spent my birthday in Paris though! I think Paris was my favorite place, but that's because I was just so tired of moving around by the end of our trip that three nights in Paris seemed like a lifetime. Then when I came back they LOST my luggage. For three days! Speaking of which, I just got back from Florida today where they lost my luggage. At least it was only for a few hours.
Mmmm.... Ok, so what's on my calendar: I have the Army 10 miler coming up next weekend. I don't think I'll do as good as the Cherry Blossom because I've been so busy I haven't had much time to train. I have a wedding to go to later that afternoon! Eeps! I also have to change my license and car registration so I can be an official D.C. resident. And I bought this neat mirror off of craig's list that I want to re-stain or re-paint or something. I'll find a picture of it and post it tomorrow. Oh yeah! And don't forget about the 2008 Calendar!

Pre-order one today! Cost depends on how much I can bulk order, but they're going to be about 15 dollars. Maybe a couple extra for Shipping and Handling. Send me an email and let me know if you're interested. And if you want to know a little bit about what you're getting into, here's last year's calendar.

MOVING!

You may have been wondering why I haven't been posting that many craft projects, responding to emails, or what have you. Maybe if you read my blog, you would. Anyway, the reason is because I've been packing up all my craft supplies in preparation to move to a new home. Yay! Then I'll have craft projects a plenty, without worrying about my roommates raising their eyebrows at the mess I've made in the living room. Big messes.
Actually, I have also been spending a lot of time at my parents house sanding, refinishing, mirror replacing and touching up chairs and other bits of furniture to then move to my new home. Busy Busy!

Dying for projects? Look at my small, but highly useful and entertaining archive here.

Lots to talk about! First, I'm moving! Second, vacation is mere weeks away! Third, I finished Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows. I've been so busy trying to balance all these things, I haven't been able to post a craft project or blog that much. Sorry! I'm going to change my newsletter thing to "not-so-weekly" because I've failed you all! But anyway, let's talk about my new place. I found a great, big, sunny one-bedroom apartment close to work and I was the first person to snatch it up. The lady on the phone was just overwhelmed with the number of responses from the Craig's list ad (the person that lived there before lived there for like 13 years), I don't think she know how much the apartment was worth. Not to say that the apartment is old and falling apart. In fact, they're in the process of renovating it and putting in new appliances. They're sanding and rebuffing the hardwood floors, giving me a new stove and refridgerator, painting the walls, and installing a ceiling fan in my bedroom. I'm signing the lease on Wednesday so hopefully I'll be able to take some pictures for you all.
I thought I was running out of space in this apartment, but now I'm starting to think I don't have enough stuff! So, I've raided my parents house and I'm taking this:

            and maybe this:

I don't know about the carpet though, I'm not sure it's exactly my style, but I'll take it for now, if it's free. I need so much other stuff, too. A nightstand! A microwave cart! End tables! Book shelf! Paper towel holder! Bath mat! Shower curtain! It's going to cost me a small fortune to accumulate all this and go to Europe. Bad timing, eh? But I've been searching and complaining about my living space for a while now and it's time to take action! Besides, this is an investment! My mom seems to think I should put off buying new stuff until I get my own (purchased) home and she's been hoarding stuff in her garage that she won't let me have (like a nice rice cooker, dishes, etc.) because she thinks that they'd get damaged maybe if I moved them to my apartment with my roommates, or that maybe she doesn't want me packing and unpacking if she thinks I'm going to be moving around. Doesn't matter. This will be my new home and everything I buy for this place will eventually make it to the place I buy whenever that is (next year, hopefully!).
Now, with my vacation and my moving, I don't think I'll be around much for the month of August. That means few projects and blog postings. However, when I do move I think I'll have LOTS of projects to work on. I want to make a lamp! I have to stain my chairs to match my dining table! I have to replace the mirror in that antique dresser! There seem to be a lot of exclamation points in this post! I've actually worn my brain out thinking about this stuff and making lists and schedules as to how everything will go. Also I'm tired because I stayed up all night to finish Harry Potter. I'm pleased.
Ok, well I'm going to go get ready for work and tidy up around the apartment. I'll post probably again later tonight because I've got to tell you about the jalapeno pepper incident and a movie review of Harry Potter & the Order of the Phoenix.

Augh! Feed catastrophe! Sorry guys if you subscribe to my RSS feed. I got a little cocky and didn't check the code before I uploaded it. I'm so stupid! Stupid! But whatev! Did you know today is the Friday the 13th? Strange things happen on Friday the 13th! Like pay day! Yeah! Moneys! Also, Comcast Triple Play! The comcast guy is coming!
Well, anyway, I went to see Transformers last night after work. They have a Simpson's couch thing outside of the movie theaters that you can take pictures on! I don't know where bart went. Some other things were also falling apart/missing.

So let me give you a Trishy review of the movie. First, I have a problem with, as my roommate says, "generically hot girls." Also called "beer commercial girls." I mean, yes, I'm a girl, so of course I criticize other girls, but c'mon. They can't at least be interesting hot? Cute hot? Nerdy hot? I mean, what Department of Defense super analyst is a crazy bombshell blonde hot girl? Don't you think nerdy hot would be more appropriate? Sorry if you are a crazy hot blonde bombshell who analyzes for the Dept. of Defense, but if there are only two girls in the movie, you'd think one of them would be less, I dunno, beer-girl-esque. Ok, ok. I know it's a movie for guys. Fine! Secondly, I just thought it was super cheesy. The end.

The search continues! I went to look at a possible new home for me today and deemed it unlivable! It was this tiny run down little place and the kitchen HAD NO COUNTERS! How can I cook? That's part 2 of my get jacked summer '07! The shower was the size of my tiny bookshelf... you would have to step out of the shower to turn. Bah! Does anyone know anyone who will rent me a place for cheap in the greater Washington, D.C. metropolitan area?!
On the other hand, I should probably wait until after my European vacation to move. And what a perfect segue to this:

Ugh! So I finally got my Eurotrip tickets in the mail and it says MR.! What they hey? I hope that isn't a problem. Tomorrow my backpack is scheduled to arrive! Anyway, enough of that. It's been busy at work with Live Earth and I actually had to go in yesterday to work. And you know what! Everyone was wearing their Live Earth T-Shirts! You know why that makes me mad? Because I kept seeing people with them days leading up to the event and kept asking "where's my shirt?" and they're like "Oh, you didn't get one? I'm sure you'll get it on Saturday." Then I'd see MORE people wearing them and say "Where's my shirt?" and people would just reassure me that I'll probably get one soon or on Saturday. Do I have my shirt?! No! I'm shirtless! Bah!
In other news, I spent 4th of July at my friend's new house in Baltimore and it is fantastic. It's so cheap in Baltimore! I want to move there! Stainless steel appliances and everything! Speaking of moving, I'm looking around for places. My current apartment is in a state of dilaptation and my friends who lived close by are moving (into that Baltimore house and other residences), so A) nothing is keeping me here anymore and B) I'm ready to back and move my ever increasing supply of crafts into a bigger and nicer apartment. I know, I'm all talk. I say I want to move all the time.

Sorry about the delay in craft project posts. I'm working on something right now and it's taking longer than expected to complete. Hopefully it'll be done tomorrow. Be on the lookout!

I got a backpack from Costco:

It was only $50! They're so cheap! But my parents bought it for me for my birthday anyway. Speaking of which, I'll be spending my birthday in either Paris or Berlin!
Other than planning for my long-awaited vacation, I've been re-reading the Harry Potter series again to prep for the new and final book. They're so good! They're also the reason that I haven't been blogging as much and why I'm late on my craft postings. I must read! But now that I'm almost done, I can get back to sewing, painting and thinking of craft projects. Tonight is the first night I got home from work early in a long time (I start work at 2pm), so I decide that tonight I would do nothing but go for a walk and eat ice cream.
Oh, one last thing... the GET JACKED SUMMER '07 is still underway! My biceps aren't any bigger though. I'm still going to the gym regularly and have since cooked chicken, meatloaf, salmon... lots of stuff! Haven't touched a frozen dinner or fast food in a long time (maybe I had McDonalds on Friday). Salud!

6.30.07: Clay Jewelry Project!

Um... Honestly, I got the complete tutorial for how to make these necklace charms from this link. So all credit goes to her. But! I was happy that I found that link because I had been looking for a way to make some Marc Jacob necklace knock-offs. No, mine don't have watches in them, but whatever! I just really liked the look but I didn't like the price--$125!! My necklace cost me like, $10. About $4 for the clay (if you get the small packs), $3.50 for the glaze, $.50 cents for the paint (seriously), and oh, the rest I spent on a chain and a hoop. And of course, mine has to be black! Yes! My heart is black! Oh, so sad!

Well... I called Mac Connection three times and I'm going to receive my $150 rebate after all... in 6 to 8 weeks. And! If you want to know, I called my the Aetna home delivery pharmacy and they said that yes, $115 dollars was the correct amount for Nasonex, generic Allegra, and Optivar eyedrops. The eyedrops... this little teeny weeny bottle:

... was the most expensive. $50 dollars! And the Allergra-type, although generic, did not qualify for the $10 dollar co-pay because it was "tier 3". So it was 40 dollars. Bah! Bah, I say!

Another sad event: I've taken down my Rasterbated wall poster. As you can see it got all crinkly and some of the sheets fell off, or are currently trying to pry themselves from the wall:

So now my wall is quite blank, albeit a few spots where the tape pulled off large chunks of paint with it. I hate my apartment. It's falling apart! I need to mooooove! Quickly! But the rent is so cheap! The location is so convenient! The lease is so flexible!
Anyway, I think that's it for now.
6.22.07: Ice Cream in a Bag!

So, if you know anything about me, you would know I am a huge ice cream freak. I generally stick to the Chocolate Chip varieties (Baskin Robbins, of course being my favorite), but I have been known to step out a little bit, and try other things. Generally, I don't like fancy ice creams with a lot of sweets and ingredients... usually too filling.
Ah! Anyway! So, ice cream in a bag. One of the more bitter things about my high school experience was that I was looking forward to this one day in Chemistry class where we studied endothermic and exothermic reactions and we made ice cream in a bag. I was super excited but then when the day came, I, for some reason, missed it. I don't remember why I missed class... sick? Denist appointment? I dunno. All I know, is that I've been carrying that resentment with me for years and years, and now I will set things right.
Also! Sorry this isn't really a "craft" project. But you know, it's a do-it-yourself project. I'm going to make three flavors: mango, strawberry, and my fave, chocolate chip.

See the full project here.

Ugh! I feel so discombobulated. I went to the doctor the other day for persistent allergies, and she gave me a prescription for nasonex, allegra, and some eyedrops. Then I sent it in to the pharmacy and I was charged 115 dollars! The worst part is, the doctor gave me samples, so I didn't even really need these things to come into the mail, but I sent it off anyway just because the prescription would expire. 115?! They gave me generic allegra! Allergy season is almost over! Another thing that sucks is I'm battling with Mac Connection because they don't want to give me the 150 dollar rebate for my laptop. They said I sent them the wrong UPC. They're directions say to include:

2. The original UPC symbol cut from the Apple product packaging (Be sure the numbers printed below the symbol are included).
They wanted the UPC on the shipping label! That is NOT the Apple product packaging. That's the Mac Connection product packaging. I'm furious! (Never buy from them!) So, I called them to complain, and they said they'd ask the "manager" for permission to give me the rebate anyway, but I haven't heard back from them. Blah!!!
Ok, so time to calm myself. I finally put a different chain on the bird necklace I made a while back because some people told me they weren't into the clear fishing-line type stuff to make it look floaty. I put a long, thin, sterling silver chain on instead:

Also! I finally bought a tripod!

Imagine how much easier things will be for me to document my projects! She's old and crabby so blah unto her, if you ask me.
Hey, guess what! I booked a trip to Europe for later this summer! My first time! We're (my cousin and i) flying into Austria, but I'm not sure where we're staying actually. I'm just kind of tagging along, but I want to hit all the hotspots... Rome, Paris, Venice... Munich? Anyone have any suggestions?! I dunno where to go! I really want to go to the Netherlands, but that's a little too far away and I don't have that much time (13 days). Oh well. Hopefully I'll make multiple trips, but it's kind of expensive and after buying a laptop, I don't know what I'm thinking booking a European vacation. Augh! Ok, let me know if you have any suggestions of cities I should visit. I'm sleepy! Goodnight!

6.8.07: Scrap Fabric Catnip Cat toys!

Here's another scrap fabric idea! But as it so happens, I used scrap felt. Which wasn't really scrap. It was just felt I bought that I never used. Yeah! This is what I'm drinking in addition to Muscle Milk. The only problem is this new stuff is rather expensive, ($30-$40 per 12 pack) and Muscle Milk is $30 dollars for a giant tub of protein packed powder! Woo! Muscles! But if you look at the nutrition facts breakdown, it seems Micellar Milk is better, and I guess justifies the price. Whatev. But! So far I've gone to the gym everyday this week (ran 6 miles last night) and my body is so sore (especially my armpits).

Anyhoo, today is normally craft project update day and I will make a craft project. In fact it's already made, but I haven't had a chance to make the project pages yet. I'll probably do that when I get home tonight, so you should see an email newsletter in the wee hours of the morning and if not, at least by noon tomorrow. Oh, you'll get it. And you'll like it.

So, as part of GET JACKED SUMMER '07, I also started the Sunday Dinner Initiative. I figure I can make dinner on Sundays and just make enough to last me until the end of the week so I don't have to buy lunch from somewhere else. So last night I made Bruchetta and Cheese Stuffed Chicken, CousCous, and some Spinach salad with Avacado, Grape Tomatoes, and Mushrooms. It was delish!

I got the recipe from Precious Times, a magazine for today's modern christian black woman. Why do I have such a magazine? I don't. I found it on my coworkers desk and flipped through it and saw the recipe and made Xerox copies. Here it is:

1 can (14.5 oz) Italian-style diced tomatoes

1.25 cup shredded Mozzarella cheese

1 pkg. (6 oz.) Stove Top Stufing Mix for Chicken

1/4 cup chopped fresh basil (but I didn't put that in because I don't like basil)

6 small boneless skinless chicken breast halves (2lb.)

1/3 cup Kraft Roasted Red Pepper Italian with Parmesan Dressing

So, Preheat the oven to 350, tenderize the chicken until it's 1/4 inch thick, and mix the dry stuffing with the cheese (save about 3/4 to be melted on top), tomatoes (undrained), and basil. Then make little chicken rolls with the stuffing and drizzle the dressing on top. Bake for 40 minutes, then put the rest of the cheese on and bake for 5 more minutes.

For dessert, I made myself a mango lassi! (I just mix plain yogurt, milk, mangoes, and sugar to taste and preferred thickness). To top it off, I had the brilliant idea of adding a little bit of Nesquick Strawberry syrup to it.

Anyway, enjoy!

P.S. I made a little "art gallery" and you can find it in the About Trish section, if you didn't just want to click on it with that link I just gave you. So! bi-weekly bicep and thigh measurements! My biceps are currently 10 inches in diameter... my thigh 19 inches. Protein shakes! Swimming! Honestly, I don't think I'll get much bigger anytime soon, (and for all you fellas who find my proposal terrifying, I don't want to get like this or this or anything) so let's just work to being able to do a real chin-up by the end of summer. By the way, my armpits are cleanly shaven in that picture. It's just dark in the pit region because of shadows I guess.

5.31.07: The Origami Paper to Fabric Experiment

Like, really bad. So! I had thought of doing a similar project with magazine clippings, but thought that origami would be better. Ingenius, even!
Basically, I used packaging tape to "laminate" the origami paper so it would be slightly more durable and sewable... like a fabric! Hell, you could even do something like this if you wanted to. But I made a pencil case. Here it is:

Oh! I feel like I haven't made a post in forever! But it's actually only been 5 days! I wanted to wait until I had a new painting ready, so I could post a picture (blogs with pictures look nicer). Here it is:

It's a boombox! The colors look a little more vivid in the picture than they do in real life. I couldn't get the lighting right today. I took another picture of it yesterday, where the colors looked normal, but it was not finished yet:

Anyway, thought maybe you'd like to see the evolution. This weekend I'm going to the wedding for the aforementioned bachelorette. I never posted pictures from the bachelorette party because, honestly, they're just you're standard fare of drunk friends at bars and clubs, nothing really interesting to anyone besides myself and the accompanying people. By the way, I'm not really a club-going person, but it's sort of obligatory for bachelorette parties. After the wedding, I'm going to hit the beach (It's Memorial Day weekend afterall!) and hopefully buy a kite. Oh how I've always wanted a kite!
Oh yeah... so an update on my new laptop. I was waiting and waiting for it to act up again (the iSight is weird) to call Apple Support, but it never did! So I decided I'd take it in to work to get it loaded up with some stuff (the Mac people at work help me configure my system), and of course THAT day when I turn it on, the iSight is no worky. I call Apple and they make me do a bunch of things, all of which end up in "ok, now restart and tell me if it's working." I tell them, "that's normally what I do to fix the problem anyway!" So, long story short, they did nothing except document that it was not working properly and if it does not work properly sometime again in the future they can refer to these notes.
La la la! Ok, I've got many things to do!

Mmyes, well then! I've been wanting to try this project out for a while now, but never got around to it. But today's the day! Sadness!
So it turns out, my new laptop is not functioning as it should. The built-in iSight is finnicky and I might have to send it back in. But of course, when I take it to the engineers at work to look at it, it's working just fine! They recommended that I wait until it's acting up again and call Apple support. Why does it always happen like that. You'd think that Murphy's Law bit is getting old, but no!
Also, I came across this ad in the newspaper and thought it was so ridiculous (yes, I've been using that word a lot lately, but I can't describe it any other way!):

Do pictures of that guy make anyone want to sign up for the engineering school at John Hopkins? They're kind of creepy, no? Why three? They couldn't pick which angle was best? I bet HE designed the ad! He's in love with himself!

5.17.07: Neato Scrap Flower Pins

5.17.07: Neato Scrap Flower Pins

Well, before I came up with the idea of giving my mom magnets for Mother's Day, this was my back up plan. These fabric flower pins thats she somehow use as accessories if, you know, she didn't think they were GAUDY, or UGLY, or CUMBERSOME. Not that she thinks that. She hasn't even seen them yet! I think they are lovely. Here's how to make them:

See the full project here.

5.14.07

Check out my new rig!

Sweet, huh? There's my MacBook Pro next to my PC and my NEW Wacom drawing tablet. Notice that my browsers are pointed to my website? Well, that's because now that I have Safari and I'm checking out how my website looks on it, I notice all sorts of weird inconsistent spacings throughout the website. That's what you get for doing everything all by hand: mistakes! I'm starting to think that I'm stupid for not going with WordPress or Moveable Type or even Dreamweaver to make the site. Blah. So, note, within the next few days, some changes will be made to make the site mo' betta. Also, since I don't have any of those programs, I can't just make an RSS feed appear out of thin air. So, note, within the next few days I will be learning XML to provide you pretties with a feed. Unless any of you guys know of any free programs I can download that converts HTML to XML or something like that.
One last thing! Here's the card I made for my mom and the box I put the magnets in. Look familiar?
