The Origami Paper to Fabric Experiment

I bought some origami paper and was trying to think of cool ways to use it. I tried my hand at some actual origami but failed miserably. Like, really bad. So! I had thought of doing a similar project with magazine clippings, but thought that origami would be better. Ingenius, even!

Basically, I used packaging tape to "laminate" the origami paper so it would be slightly more durable and sewable... like a fabric! Hell, you could even do something like this if you wanted to. But I made a pencil case. Here it is:

Here are the supplies for making the fabric. Not shown for the pencil case are velcroe and the sewing machine and whatnot.
To start, just apply packaging tape. I slightly overlap the pieces. You don't have to do the top side, but at least the back. If you don't do the top, though, it might get dirty easily.
I carefully peel it off the table to start on the back side. I leave some tape hanging off the sides. That way, when I put the tape on the back, I know it will be sealed around the edges.
Supplies
Get to tapin'
Now, the other side
Now I cut around the edge. I leave a teeny-weeny border of tape around the sides, for locked-in freshness!
The pencil is too large. So I'll add some more "fabric" to the edges.
I just taped it on!
Trim it
Doesn't fit
Fits!
Okie, so, the paper/tape combo is pretty pliable. I fold down the top so it wouldn't just be a rough edge. Then I just hold the velcroe in place. I don't recommend pinning it. Holes will show.
Sew it in place! It stayed pretty straight. Here's a VERY important tip: Use a basting stitch, or the longest stitch length possible, otherwise stitches too close together will just tear the stuff.
This is what it looks like from the other side.
Velcroe-ing!
Sew it!

Ok, now both sides are in place.
I sewed the sides of the pencil case inside out like so...
Then I flip it right side out, like this...

Sew edges
Flip it out
So now you can put in pencils or other stuff. Ladies, you know what I mean. Yeah.
So there you go. A pencil case or one of them "lady-cases". Looks like something I bought in the Philippines.
Add Pencil!
Display nicely on desk.

Hi! A very good idea! I tried this project with striped gift wrapping paper and it worked well. I also used self adhesive velcroe, which sticks good to the packaging tape.
